Mr Cochran was appointed to the board in October 2014, following the acquisition of Hague & London Oil BV (“HALO”), where he was a principal alongside Mr Phelps. He was previously an Executive Director of Coastal Energy Company (“Coastal”) before its sale to Compania Espanola de Petroleos, S.A.U. (“CEPSA”) for approximately C$2.3bn in November 2013. Prior to that, Mr Cochran was the CEO of Dominion Petroleum which was sold to Ophir Energy in 2011 in an approximately $250m transaction and was a co-founder of Salamander Energy in 2005. He has over 25 years of international experience in the oil and gas industry working across Asia Pacific, North Africa and the Middle East and undertaking a wide range of roles including Business Development and New Ventures. He has previously worked for Western Geophysical; Veritas DGC Indonesia and Anadarko Petroleum.
Mr Phelps became a Board Member, along with Mr Cochran, in connection with the acquisition of HALO in October 2014. He was a Co-founder, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Coastal Energy, which operated in the Gulf of Thailand, onshore Thailand, and offshore Malaysia before its sale to CEPSA (IPIC-Abu Dhabi) in January 2014 for $2.3 billion. Before that, Mr Phelps was Chief Financial Officer of NuCoastal Thailand, the predecessor company to Coastal. His early background in Oil & Gas was working for Citi as a senior member of the Energy Investment Banking Group, and prior to that the Leveraged Finance Group, where he advised on numerous M&A and financing transactions in the energy industry.
Mr. Valand is the Founder and CEO of the Third Energy Group. He is also a Chartered Engineer with 40 years experience in the upstream Oil & Gas industry for numerous Exploration & Production companies, major contractors and specialist technical consultants. Mr. Valand was appointed to the HALO Board by Third Energy Holdings Ltd (TEHL) who became shareholders upon completion of the transaction at end 2018. Northwharf Nominees Ltd are the shareholders of The Third Energy Group; which hold 19.2% of HALO’s shares (making them the largest shareholder).
